GE Appliances oven error code

GE Appliances oven code F2 / F20: Oven too hot (over-temperature)

GE ranges and wall ovens with electronic controls

What F2 means

The oven temperature went above a preset safety limit.

Also shown as: F20, depending on the model.

Likely causes

  • Temperature sensor or control fault
  • Element or relay stuck on

Safe first checks

  1. Turn the oven off, keep the door closed and let it cool. Don't put water on a hot oven.
  2. Once it's cool, turn the oven off at the circuit breaker for a minute or two, then back on.

When to stop

If you see smoke, flames or scorching, keep the door closed and call 911 if a fire doesn't go out. An over-temperature code needs a trained technician; leave the oven off at the breaker until it's serviced.
