What F9E1 means
Draining is taking longer than expected, typically over 8 minutes.
Also shown as: F9 E1, Long Drain, depending on the model.
Likely causes
- Kinked or clogged drain hose
- Standpipe too high or too low
- Too many suds from non-HE detergent
Safe first checks
- Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or clogged, and that it uses its U-shaped hose form at the standpipe.
- Check the standpipe height: Whirlpool lists 39 in (99 cm) minimum and 96 in (244 cm) maximum.
- Use only HE detergent.
When to stop
If drain times stay long, schedule service.
